Surfrider Foundation Europe
We are pleased to invite you to an exclusive film screening and discussion evening organised by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and Surfrider Foundation Europe, taking place on 21 May 2025 at Cinema NOVA in Brussels.
About the Film:
The evening will feature a screening of Green Algae, The Forbidden Story, a powerful adaptation of the investigative graphic novel Algues vertes, l’histoire interdite by journalist Inès Léraud and illustrator Pierre Van Hove, directed by Pierre Jolivet.
This gripping film sheds light on the phenomenon of “green tides” in Brittany and the environmental and political silence surrounding agricultural pollution. It also draws attention to a broader European issue—over 80% of marine waters and more than 30% of coastal and inland waters in the EU are affected by eutrophication, largely driven by nutrient pollution from agriculture.
Panel Discussion:
Following the screening, join us for a discussion with the film’s director, Pierre Jolivet, and representatives from civil society and environmental NGOs to delve deeper into the challenges of water pollution and its implications for human rights, biodiversity, and local economies.
Opening Reception:
The evening will begin with drinks and snacks from 18:30 to 19:30 at the cinema bar.
