Since the beginning of summer, major renovation work has been underway at our first Brussels center: Mundo Matongé.

At the same time, Vivaqua is carrying out work on the street until the end of January. Good news: Their main works have now moved further down the street and the entrance and the garage are accessible again. We will keep you informed if additional works by Vivaqua will happen in front of the center.

Just a few more weeks of patience and you will be able to enjoy our brand new spaces:

  • A more open and welcoming reception area
  • A completely redesigned basement with new meeting rooms and bleachers
  • A chill zone
  • A new co-working space
  • The rooms on the -1 floor (Fairtrade and Conference) will be refreshed, as will the restaurant and kitchenettes on each floor.

These renovations have been designed and carried out in accordance with Mundo’s standards, with reuse and sustainability at the heart of the project. Windows, beams, and furniture will therefore be given a new lease on life with us. As usual, we are mainly using high-quality materials, with a preference for wood. The paints are also sustainable and organic.

We are also very proud to be working on this project with Casablanco. This is a Brussels-based non-profit organization for social and professional integration, mainly active in the construction sector.

 

Here is a glimpse of the progress of the project and the next steps:

 

Already completed:

  • Terra and Ocean rooms (-1) are now open again.  The new flooring has been installed – we hope you’ll enjoy it!
  • The opening between level -1 and the ground floor, where the seating steps will be installed, is now finished.
  • Reinforcement is done for the stability of the building.
  • The works in the Good Planet office are finished. 
  • The openings for the passageway have been made, next step will be to install the windows.
  • The floors of the cafeteria have been polished. 
  • The kitchen of Refresh has been renovated. Last step is the installation of the window.

You can get cold drinks and pastries during the day and sandwiches and individual plates at lunchtime.Full service will start up at the beginning of December.

  • The catering service is available.
  • The cafeteria space is accessible.

 

Delays due to unexpected complications

  • Additional work was needed to reinforce the structural stability of the building. This has caused delays in some parts of the project. 
  • The delivery of the new windows is being delayed by the manufacturer.

 

Ongoing:

  • This week and the coming week, from the 18th of November, the windows of the reception will be enlarged. This will cause some noise and dust. Mainly impacted offices will be the ones above the reception and the temporary meeting room.

 

  • From the 4th of December, the main entrance door will be renewed. This might take a few days. Access to the building will be possible via the garage. Signs will be put in place to guide you.

The reception area remains accessible for you throughout this period to retrieve your letters and parcels.The reception desk will temporarily be moved to the entrance hall. There you will find the Center Coordinators to assist you as usual with any requests or questions.At the latest by mid-December all should be back to normal.

The Ocean Room is blocked on Zapfloor from December 4th to 6th. If you want to make a reservation during that period, please write to reception.We strongly discourage scheduling large meetings with external guests during this time

 

Coming up:

➡️ The main entrance area will be redeveloped, including new doors and an adapted reception area.

➡️ The garage door will be replaced as soon as Vivaqua is done with their works in the street

➡️Refurbishment of the floor kitchenettes will be the last step of the renovations, likely to begin at the end of December, starting with the 5th floor.

 

Practical Info:

  • The corridor on the Natagora garden side will stay inaccessible until end of works in Novembre
  • Bikes 🚲 : After parking your bike in the garage, you can enter through a glass door opposite the Natagora garden. A staircase will lead you to the area of the Conference and Fairtrade rooms.
  • The Compost is in the Natagora garden
